Afaero's engineering team continues development of the VTOL-3.0, the company's next-generation vertical take-off and landing platform. Building on the operational VTOL-2.4, the new airframe targets a 3.0-metre wingspan, 180 minutes of endurance and an 80-kilometre operating range.
The extended envelope is designed around a specific set of missions: long-corridor patrol of powerlines and pipelines, wide-area ISR, and linear asset monitoring where existing platforms require multiple sorties to cover a single corridor.
As with all Afaero engineered platforms, the VTOL-3.0 is being developed for in-country final assembly, payload integration and lifecycle support, keeping the full capability chain — from airframe to operator training — under a single South African contract.
Development status and target performance figures will be confirmed against engineering datasheets as the programme progresses. Organisations with candidate missions for the extended-range envelope are invited to engage early, while payload and communications architecture decisions remain open.
