When an unmanned aircraft programme depends on a foreign vendor for spares, firmware and repairs, availability is a diplomatic variable. For mines, utilities and security forces that build operations around aerial capability, that dependency is a strategic risk.
Afaero was founded in 2015 on a different premise: that South Africa should hold design authority over the aerial systems its industries depend on. Engineering, final assembly, payload integration and operational support are performed in-country, and public performance claims are kept carefully aligned with source documentation.
Sovereignty does not mean isolation. Afaero integrates carefully selected partner-supplied platforms where they serve a mission best — but integration, support and accountability remain local. The customer holds one South African contract, not a chain of overseas dependencies.
As a 100% Black-owned, B-BBEE Level 1 aerospace company, Afaero also treats transformation as core to the mission: building the engineers, operators and maintainers who will run Africa's autonomous aerial infrastructure for decades.
